Dog Cruelly Set On Fire With Gasoline But Here’s How She Looks After Year Of Recovery

A heartbreaking story of resilience and community support has gone viral, touching the hearts of millions. Riona, a pit bull mix, suffered severe abuse when she was set on fire in Nutbush, Memphis, on June 20. Doused in gasoline, Riona endured fourth-degree burns on her face and first to second-degree burns on her body, causing immense pain and suffering.

Tennessee authorities are working tirelessly to investigate the shocking incident and bring the responsible individual to justice. While no arrests have been made, a $20,000 reward has been offered for any information that could lead to the identification of the perpetrator. This reward fund has been generously contributed by concerned citizens, reflecting the widespread outrage and empathy Riona’s story has generated.

Discovered running in flames, Riona was rushed to Memphis Animal Services for urgent care. The Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, known for rescuing animals in need, stepped in to provide the necessary treatment and support during this difficult time. To raise awareness and encourage support, the rescue created a TikTok page, Justice4Riona.

Riona’s TikTok page quickly gained traction, attracting over 2 million followers within 24 hours. One video showcasing her recovery garnered 3.7 million views and 584,000 likes. The videos revealed Riona wrapped in bandages, demonstrating the long journey ahead in her recovery process.

Ginger Natoli, founder of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, shared positive updates on Riona’s condition, stating that she is healing “very well.” Initially, it was believed Riona had suffered from road burns, but it soon became clear that she had been intentionally set on fire. Witness statements and ring camera footage confirmed the cruelty of the act.

Riona, a one-year-old pup weighing around 35 pounds, lost most of her left ear in the fire. Fortunately, her left eye was spared. She is currently receiving twice-daily full-body wraps under sedation, which last over an hour, to prevent infection and protect her sensitive skin. Thankfully, Riona has remained infection-free, and her first skin graft is scheduled to begin soon.

Mallory McLemore, a vet tech manager at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists, expressed her outrage at the deliberate nature of the crime, stating, “Somebody did this intentionally. You can’t just have somebody out there like that.” As the investigation continues, the reward for information continues to grow, fueled by online donations as Riona’s story gains widespread attention.

It’s important to remember that certain acts of animal cruelty are considered federal crimes, carrying a potential prison sentence of up to seven years. Although no arrests have been made, the Memphis Police Department is committed to pursuing justice for Riona.

Riona’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the need to unite against animal cruelty and stand for justice and compassion. Her strength and the outpouring of support from the public inspire us all to fight against cruelty and seek justice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
